Requirements:
Direct experience in system level grid design required; includes utility level distribution systems, substations, microgrids and large scale industrial power systems.
  • Advanced power system generation design for medium and large generation projects including mixed generation power and energy storage designs.
  • Medium and low voltage system design of integrated power generation systems, relay and breaker protection and sizing, control systems, critical power system designs, interconnect studies and balance of plant.
  • Perform power system planning including steady state real and reactive power flow, P-V and Q-V analysis for voltage stability, dynamic stability analysis
  • Calculate power flows including currents, voltages and phase angles in the system
  • Perform system level power system design and architecture to incorporate large scale, utility grade power conversion and inverters in the 250KVA to 1000KVA level including ramped dispatch and control
  • Design, evaluate system for high ampacity applications
  • Detailed design of system protection and protection coordination as well as grounding systems.
  • Advanced control system design incorporating DNP3, IEC-61850 and Modbus.
  • Experienced in the use of either SKM or ETAP tools
  • Using AutoCAD or relevant (Altium) software create single line diagrams, three line diagrams and wiring diagrams
  • Ability to perform arc flash hazard design and analysis
  • Perform infrastructure and balance-of-plant design for drop-in distributed generation systems
  • Perform renewable energy grid integration analysis on utility electrical grids and microgrids
  • Utility level interconnection design and analysis
  • Direct experience with enhanced voltage and frequency regulation, reactive power capability and control functions to utilize this capability
  • Perform analysis of distributed energy resource issues and utility circuit remediation strategies as related to battery and advanced energy system storage. This may include reverse power and fault current flows; voltage fluctuation; distribution feeder section loading; unintentional islanding; ground fault overvoltage; harmonics; unwanted control interaction between battery or other energy storage system and large scale inverters already installed in the utility distribution or microgrid circuits.
 
Requirements
  • 8+ years of grid level power system design experience
  • MS or PhD in electrical engineering from an accredited university
  • BSEE will be considered in the case of a concentration of studies in electrical power system engineering
  • Grid integration of traditional thermal and also renewable energy and storage projects in the 1MW to 100MW+ size
  • Advanced systems engineering expertise in battery energy storage and storage technologies required
  • Experienced distribution grid distribution circuits and/or microgrid design, modeling, analysis
  • Ability to structure and perform project level design, protection systems and control system analysis.
  • Must be able to prepare advanced reports and detailed engineering case studies using MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint.
  • Experience with MS Project and AutoCAD is required.
  • Direct hands-on experience using electrical analysis software such as EDSA, ETAP, SKM, Easy Power, Cyme power engineering software, Aspen One-Liner is preferred.
  • The position includes some travel to the job site to survey existing conditions and gather field information to support the design, installation and commissioning process.
  • Ability to travel 5-15% of time with occasional overnight travel
