Hydro Operator

The Hydro Operator will oversee Hydro Facilities in Vancouver and surrounding areas while providing a safe and efficient environment for employees as well as ensuring environmental compliance in accordance with local and provincial regulations. 

  • Responsible for monitoring and assessing performance of the hydro facility, through annual operating reviews, including production, corrective and preventative maintenance programs
  • understanding and responding to operational issues in a timely fashion
  • Maintaining and Establishing a positive working environment conducive to team work
  • Implementation and development of all aspects of health & safety policies, practices and programs designed to motivate employees to reduce or eliminate occupational accidents, injuries and other hazards related to company or operations
  • Ensure that all relationships with key stakeholders maintain close relationships. 
  • Provide and maintain various stream gauges and keeping them up to appropriate standards, downloading, analyzing and compiling data to ensure operational compliance with assistance from team members 
  • Ensure all environmental responsibilities are adhered to on a proactive basis by working closely with conservation authorities, and all applicable government agencies, as required by the site specific approvals, using the regulatory group to support you in this
  • Assist in execution of the Emergency Response Plan (ERP) in the event it is initiated
  • Submit reports on Health Safety & Environment, budget, production, availability, and other performance measures currently in place and to be developed
  • Engage with other hydroelectric producers to keep abreast of new technologies and operations to better our facilities
  • Uphold all aspects of Environmental, Health and Safety policies, practices, and programs
  • Uphold the company’s core values.
  • 5+ Years' experience in Hydro operations
  • Journeyman electrician, preferred Class B, Millwright 
  • Previous run-of- river hydro facility operations experience would be an asset
  • Training in the development, implementation and execution of site Emergency response Plans
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license (Drivers Abstract and Insurance proof will be required for successful candidates). 
  • Ability to travel within Canada and internationally
  • Ability to travel by boat, ferry or sea plane to remote work sites;
  • Ability to work a varying schedule including early mornings, late evenings, weekends and holidays, as well as on-call.
