Formulation Project Manager

The Formulation Project Manager will plan, direct, and coordinate the Research and Development activities for the assigned team by setting priorities and maintaining both internal and external communication.  
                     
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Direct the assigned project team to achieve new product development goals.
  • Plan, direct, conduct, and report research activities supporting the design and scale up of new products to customer or industry specifications or the modification of existing products for new applications.
  • Utilize expertise to formulate hypotheses and seek or devise novel solutions to technical problems to accelerate development of new products.
  • Analyze/identify/solve problems or customer complaints regarding existing products and originate formula or process changes for new applications. 
  • Responsible for all aspects of the project delivery, including managing changes to the project deliverables, while ensuring client satisfaction and organizational profitability.
  • Communicate project updates, critical issues, implications, and progress to our leadership team.
  • Demonstrate outstanding project management, ensuring that project plans, project budgets, and scope control all exceed expectations.
  • Prioritize project needs based on tasks outstanding, obstacles or barriers, budgets, resources and deadlines.
  • Coordinate resolution of project issues and/or delays to reduce the impact on the project and ensure timely implementation.
  • Maintain a fundamental understanding by obtaining information through industry reports, literature and patents as well as attending technical conferences, trade shows, and educational courses as it relates to existing and future technologies. 
  • Execute upon understanding of intellectual property and commercialization.
  • Author and present technical reports, technical papers, patent applications, project updates, and technical overviews as required.
  • Engage internal and external raw material and equipment suppliers.
  • Function as a liaison to sales, marketing, technical service, and manufacturing.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Company's policies and applicable laws.
  • Supervisory responsibilities include the selection, training and development, assigning work, and performance management of employees. Responsible for people management including coaching, motivating, and developing members of the team.
  • Follow safety guidelines for handling materials with the use of protective equipment as required.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of work area, laboratory instruments and equipment. 
  • Handle confidential information with care; ensure protection of intellectual property.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of a Masters Degree in Materials Science or related field is required (PhD preferred).
  • A minimum of four to six years of laboratory experience including 1 year project leadership experience are required.
  • Four (4) years of experience should be in Si based PV processing, glass science, organic/inorganic chemistry or related field.
  • Knowledge and formulation experience of thick film paste/ink is a plus.
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism and leadership ability; exhibit a high level of motivation and initiative.
  • Demonstrate problem solving, critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Comfortable making decisions independently
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to successfully complete multiple tasks within deadlines
  • Strong influencing, coaching and communication skills across all levels of an organization, plus a passion for seeing others succeed.
  • Travel approximately 15% - national and international
