Wind Site Lead Technician

Location: Edmonton, AB, Canada
The Lead Wind Technician will be accountable for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the Wind Farm in Alberta. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 2 years experience with GE Turbines or 3 - 5 years experience as Wind Technician. 

  • Troubleshoot or repair mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical malfunctions related to variable pitch systems, variable speed control systems, converter systems, or related components.
  • Climb wind turbine towers to inspect, maintain, or repair equipment.
  • Diagnose problems involving wind turbine generators or control systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance on wind turbine equipment, underground transmission systems, wind fields substations, or fiber optic sensing and control systems.
  • Start or restart wind turbine generator systems to ensure proper operations.
  • Test electrical components of wind systems with devices such as voltage testers, multimeters, oscilloscopes, infrared testers, or fiber optic equipment.
  • Test structures, controls, or mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical systems, according to test plans or in coordination with engineers.
  • Ensure optimal performance through daily work scheduling, planning, and implementation of maintenance, service, and repair of wind turbine equipment as part of a team of wind technicians and contractors capable of producing the agreed deliverables.
  • Support the daily operations and maintenance plan in alignment with the Supervisor’s business plan through driving operational performance, achievement of business results and continuous improvement.
  • Operational compliance to EHS, NERC, OHS, etc., plant availability, and cost standards through adherence to operating procedures, policies and applicable regulations.
  • Drive for results in the areas of safety, compliance, plant availability, and cost through ensuring all routine and preventative maintenance is performed accurately, on time, and of a high quality and documented correctly.
  • Support the Lead Technician(s) and Supervisor as part of a high-performance team of employees and contractors to achieve expected outcomes of the plants.
  • Identify and mitigate risk that could negatively impact the agreed to outcomes or business results, and identifying and realizing opportunities that could positively impact the agreed to outcomes or business results.
  • Contribute to a collaborative work environment within the team, peers, stakeholders and support groups to ensure issues may be resolved in a professional and productive manner.
  • Uphold company values, thereby maintaining and enhancing reputation and stakeholder relations.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Wind turbine technician in a Service capacity
  • Climb and work at heights up to 100 meters.
  • Understand SCADA systems, controls software, and communication systems.
  • Valid driver's license. No DWI/DUI/OUI in the last 5 years.
  • Basic wind technician certificates (Tower Rescue, CPR, First Aid, AED, OSHA 10, Competent Climber, Confined Space, Working at Heights, NFPA 70, LOTO).
