Director of Solar Construction

Job Description:
The Director of Construction leads the solar construction team to build safe, high quality, timely projects, while beating the budget estimates to improve the operating margin from the original bid. The Director of Construction role is key to developing great client relations and developing our employees. This position is responsible for safety, quality, productivity, planning and scheduling, equipment management, client relations, team building, risk mitigation, cost control, contract administration, and execution strategy.

Leads and implements the safety policies and procedures and addresses non-compliance among all employees, subcontractors and vendors.
Ensures the project is executed through the use of the Quality Management System.  Prevents rework, recognizes any potential patterns of rework, and develops solutions to eliminate it.
Ensures the project team sets, communicates, and carries out production goals and schedules with the project team.  Leads the development of the project schedule and ensures the team is executing to the plan.  Implements effective cost controls over labor, material, equipment, and other related expenditures.
Works to improve the labor and other cost budgets.  Trains team on pre-planning, surveying, plan reading, productivity, efficiency, economical crew size, quality workmanship, and safety to ensure projects are expeditiously and profitably constructed.  Utilizes daily huddles to promote communication, resolve issues and share ideas, so the projects are expeditiously and profitably constructed.  Improves cash flow by confidently adhering to the project invoicing schedule and ensures the team accurately documents and submits all receivables, quantity as-builts, change orders and claims.  Produces complete subcontracts and ensures all subcontractors execute to the agreement and the company's standards.  Estimates, prices and negotiates owner initiated extra work, change of scope items, and contract deletions to improve profits.
Actively participates in Marketing and Estimating department activities to bring together plans, teaming strategies, technical approach and bid strategies.
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Construction Management 
10+ years of experience or equivalent.
Extraordinary leadership skills with the ability to lead a diverse group of individuals.
Prior experience as a Construction Manager and/or Superintendent.
Successfully led relatively complex construction projects. Variables may include difficult client relations and/ or complexity of scope of work.
Demonstrated success handling subcontractors and developing and executing creative project changes.
Demonstrated success developing cost to completes, costing and pricing Change Orders, and improving profits.
Background in project start-up meetings, subcontractor and vendor buyouts, owner estimates, sub / vendor requisitions and cost to completes.
Authoritative knowledge of various areas of construction (electrical, earthwork, utilities, structures, mechanical, etc.)
Experienced knowledge of the basic OSHA Safety regulations
Strong collaboration, communication and people skills are a requirement.
Working Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Project.
