Solar Project Permitting Manager

Location: New York, NY, United States

The Permitting Manager will serve a burgeoning development pipeline of large-scale solar energy projects in the U.S. with a focus on permitting, environmental assessment and site development. The successful candidate will have 3+ years of environmental consulting, land use planning or site land development experience within renewable energy industry or related field.

Responsibilities:
  • Establish AHJ approval requirements for each project
  • Secure land use permits for new and acquired solar power generating facilities across multiple local, state, and federal jurisdictions
  • Manage technical and environmental studies and support initial conditions verification for solar development
  • Ensure property owner support and documentation for zoning issues and applications
  • Identify and implement novel mitigation strategies to reduce project cost and impact
  • Review project site plans for adherence to AHJ requirements and land use approvals
  • Document and track all environmental and other regulatory due diligence including natural resource, cultural/archaeological, and wildlife/plant inventories
  • Plan lead times and commission all internal & external work related to preparing required documentation towards permit approval.
  • Attend public hearings to deliver detailed presentations regarding application and project
  • Develop and implement community outreach and communication plans
Skills:
  • BS/BA Degree, preference for Environmental Science/Management, Engineering or similar
  • 3+ years experience in renewable project development
  • Knowledge of commercial and utility-scale solar permitting
  • Knowledge and experience in federal and state regulatory processes and environmental impact analyses
  • Experience supporting site control documentation
  • Knowledge of project financing close and pre-construction needs
  • Experience managing all required plans, ROW agreements, final specifications due to utilities and AHJs
  • Highly resourceful and strategic thinker; able to summarize complex issues, identify opportunities or next steps with limited guidance and add value through creative input
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated interest in a career in environmental, permitting and renewable energy
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required
