The Energy Storage Director will plan, coordinate, prioritize, monitor and evaluate sales opportunities and must be a creative problem-solver with an ability to combine technical and commercial knowledge to originate and close new storage opportunities. The candidate will also need to be comfortable with the economics of energy storage and should be proficient in working with project financial models.  Knowledge of distributed, utility-scale energy storage, stand-alone energy storage facilities. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who will serve as a technical expert and sales manager owning the entire development and sales cycle from opportunity identification to sales close.
  • Constantly research and maintain a working expertise on relevant energy storage technology to ensure we are ahead of the technology curve for each unique opportunity.
  • Evaluate market information, identify target geographies and opportunity types, and develop and execute strategies to successfully grow our energy storage business.  
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of how distributed and/or utility-scale energy storage can qualitatively and quantitatively benefit both the customers and utilities as both a stand-alone solution and integrated with other renewable technologies.
  • Lead the overall sales and marketing strategy based on experience in target markets and client engagements.
  • Maintain a working expertise on policy, rate design, and incentives in all relevant markets to ensure we are pursuing opportunities in the most efficient and effective way possible.
  • Develop detailed financial models to determine the economic benefits of specific storage projects, taking into consideration various revenue sources, capex, opex, and other technical assumptions.
  • Manage and expand relationships with utilities and regulators in key regions to ensure we are identifying new opportunities early in specific markets.
  • Quickly identify high probability customers and opportunities in target geographies and close the sale, retaining ownership until execution of the final contract documents.
  • Coordinate with project managers to seamlessly integrate energy storage into renewable energy or traditional energy design-build projects
‚ÄčRequirements
6-10 years minimum work experience in both a technical and a commercial capacity in energy storage, other renewable energy technologies, energy efficiency, or energy/sustainability solutions sales.
Relationships and proven results in the direct sale of energy storage, renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainability.
A solid understanding of the renewable energy development processes, from project origination, to development, financing, EPC, and operation.
Extensive knowledge of the broader energy ecosystem, utility rate structures and various influencers and stakeholders
Market strategy - Sound and logical judgement – can sensitively apply knowledge, skills, and logic to select practical, effective strategic and tactical courses of action
Ability to develop and manage strategic relationships and/or joint ventures
Understanding of engineering principles related to distributed energy resources and electrical design
Experience serving utility, commercial, industrial, federal, and institutional clients
Exceptional communication and presentation skills, both written and oral
Ability to travel as necessary
BA/BS required (engineering degree preferred), MBA preferred
