Battery Controls Engineer

Job Description:
The Battery Controls Engineer will create an energy management platform for large building automation systems.  The Engineer will help with integrating into a cloud based machine learning platform to control and coordinate onsite energy assets such as battery storage, solar, HVAC, and cogeneration with energy markets in real-time.
 
Responsibilities:
•          Manage third party devices integration including renewable generation and energy storage systems to our existing energy management system
•          Develop sequence of operations to optimize real-time economic dispatch of battery storage systems. Create demand charge reduction and other ancillary services applications
•          Engineering and deployment of microgrid controls systems for autonomous management of renewables and energy storage resources
•         Develop real-time microgrid energy management control algorithms and communication interfaces for microgrid projects
•          Analyze energy usage through field data logger, controllers and utility billing data to identify electrical characteristics of microgrid loads
•          Validation and testing of microgrid control systems and project commissioning support
•     Interact with clients, utility personnel, contractors, and project stakeholders to assess the technical feasibility of distributed energy projects including PV, energy storage, and microgrid projects 
•          Assist with quotations and engineering to build sufficient documents for RFI's and RFP's
         
Requirements
​•          BS/MS in Engineering or Technology
•          3+ years of experience in control systems, power systems and energy storage system design
•          3+ years of experience with microgrid design and controls including power sharing algorithms, traditional power sources, energy/battery storage devices and emerging renewable energy sources
•          Familiarity with BACnet, Modbus and other common protocols & knowledge of IP based networks
•          Familiarity with SCADA or PLC system design
•          Experience with Skyspark platform and axon programming (preferred)
•          Experience with Tridium Niagara platform (preferred)
•          Knowledge of building mechanical, electrical and HVAC systems (preferred)
