VP of Construction Operations

JOB DESCRIPTION
The VP of Operations will be responsible for project operations and general management nationally.  The candidate will be experienced in all operational elements, organizational development and structuring as well as have strong leadership skills, engineering background and prior financial-focused operations experience.  The candidate sought should be mission-focused, seasoned, strategic, and process-minded leader with experience scaling an organization, leading a geographically diverse team, and developing a performance culture among a group of talented individuals. The VP of Operations must be a leader who is able to help others within the organization deliver measurable, cost-effective results that make the vision a reality. Importantly, the successful VP of Operations will have the skills, sensitivity, and personal confidence to tap into the power that each member of the team brings to this mission. While it is essential that the VP of Operations bring efficient and effective systems to increase the productivity of the organization, it is also critical that the team retain the creative spark that drives the organization forward..

RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

-Capacity Building - ability to effectively build organization and staff capacity, developing a top-notch workforce and the processes that ensure the organization runs smoothly 
-Leadership and Organization - exceptional capacity for managing and leading people; a team builder who has experience in scaling up organizations; ability to connect staff both on an individual level and in large groups; capacity to enforce accountability, develop and empower top-notch leaders from the bottom up, lead from the top down, cultivate entrepreneurship, and learn the strengths and weaknesses of the team so as to put people in a position to succeed 
-Action Oriented - enjoys working hard and looks for challenges; able to act and react as necessary, even if limited information is available; not afraid to take charge of a situation; can overcome resistance to leadership and take unpopular stands when necessary 
-General Management - thorough understanding of project operations, engineering, estimating, finance, systems, and HR; broad experience with the full range of business functions and systems, including strategic development and planning, budgeting, business analysis, finance, information systems, human resources, and marketing

QUALIFICATIONS
Over 15 years of experience in the construction or energy sector; power / electrical experience a plus
Strong understanding of heavy construction processes and risk management
Expertise building a team in a growth market by assessing, recruiting and developing A-players
Success in mentoring employees, and addressing shortcomings via both remediation and removal
Labor relations skills in both union or non-union environments – experience managing project labor in a self-perform environment
Ability to seek-out, develop, and manage strategic relationships
Demonstrated high level of judgment – can sensitively apply knowledge and skills to select practical, effective courses of action
Previous experience in negotiating with both small and large-scale customers
Absolute commitment to maturing and enforcing process disciplines
Exceptional professional communication skills, both written and oral
Team player with empowering approach to management
Energy and drive to maximize company value; passion for renewable energy
Executive presence with projected credibility and integrity
Self-directed, organized and self-motivated to accomplish goals
Ability to multi-task and manage effectively in a deadline-driven, challenging environment – accurate and calm under pressure
General management skills including appropriate knowledge of employment law, finance, and contracts.
